Fifth Element Journey

  • Duration: 10 Hours (approx.)
  • Location: Sydney, NSW
  • Product code: FEJ

To this day, Indigenous Australians preserve and pass down history through intricate song, dance, art and stories of The Dreaming. The Song Lines are an oral tradition, an ancient memory code deeply tied to the Australian landscape. They would use the landscape as a guide to pass on important knowledge, cultural values and wisdom.

The Fifth Element is a 5-day journey that’s like going back in time, before colonisation, with our very own Aboriginal guide leading every step of the way. Meet the Traditional Owners and experience a true connection to Country when you travel a similar route to what is known as the Emu Song Lines from the east coast, Palm Beach to outback NSW, Burke.

Day 1 – Thursday 6 October 2022

0515 Depart Sydney by coach with your Aboriginal guide to Palm Beach for our opening sunrise ceremony. Stop in the Blue Mountains to observe ancient rock engravings of the Emu pointing us in the right direction. Lunch is in Mudgee at local Aboriginal café who grow their own native bush food on the premises. Meet Traditional Owners at the local Aboriginal Land Council in Nyngan before our sunset ceremony on route to our camp for the night in Byrock.

Day 2 – Friday 7 October 2022

0600 Sunrise ceremony to welcome the day, before walking to Byrock Rock Holes with Traditional Owner. Take part in the cleansing smoking ceremony as you enter this sacred space. Learn of Baiame’s footprint and discover why this area was so important to our First Nations and their connection to language, culture and lore. In the afternoon we head to Bourke to meet our Local guide and continue to Gundabooka National Park for Rock Art and special landscape discovery. Accommodation is at a homestead by the river where we experience the customary sunset ceremony before dinner, star gazing and storytelling.

Day 3 – Saturday 8 October 2022

0600 Sunrise ceremony to welcome the day before traveling to Burke for a First Nations Riverbank tour and then on to Brewarrina for a tour of the Museum and discovery of the ancient and heritage-listed Fish Traps. The Fish Traps are the oldest known man-made structure and still well intact today. Sunset ceremony is by the river before dinner, and a night-time discovery of the mysterious Min Min Lights.

Day 4 – Sunday 9 October 2022

0600 Sunrise ceremony to welcome the day before a tour of the Brewarrina Mission Site. Then we travel to Lightening Ridge for lunch with Traditional Owner and tour. The afternoon is a indulgent soak in the artisan mineral baths before our sunset ceremony. Our final night is full of storytelling, dance and artistic expression.

Day 5 – Monday 10 October 2022

0600 Sunrise ceremony. Our journey back to Sydney is reflective and comfortable. Our final Sunset will happen whenever Mother Earth advises us and will be symbolic as our closing ceremony.
